Gearbox Production Equipment
Automated assembly and testing lines for gear reducers, gearboxes and NEV reducer assemblies
Solution Overview
The intelligent gearbox production equipment suite is a full-process smart manufacturing equipment system built for wind-turbine main-drive gearboxes, marine propulsion gear reducers, NEV electric-drive reducers and industrial general-purpose gearboxes, covering the complete process chain from post-blank precision machining and surface-hardening heat treatment to automated precision assembly and all-condition performance validation.
Built on an architecture of flexible machining cells + heavy-duty intelligent logistics + digitalized end-to-end quality control, it supports planetary, parallel-shaft, worm-gear and other drivetrain configurations, and accommodates gearbox products across different power and precision classes — meeting the core manufacturing demands of high precision, high reliability and large-scale volume production.

Core Process Units & Terminology
Covering the two core units of precision gear machining and housing & structural part machining.
Precision Gear Machining Equipment Unit
- Tooth roughing station: Equipped with high-speed CNC hobbing machines and precision gear shapers, supporting both dry-cutting and wet-cutting process modes. It handles external cylindrical gears and ring gears with modules of 2–40 mm and diameters up to 2.5 m, with pre-machined tooth accuracy up to GB/T 10095 Class 7. Automatic loading/unloading mechanisms and an online tool-wear monitoring system enable unmanned continuous machining; for ring gears and special-profile gears, CNC gear shapers and broaching machines complete the tooth forming.
- Tooth finishing station: Equipped with CNC form grinding machines and worm-wheel gear grinding machines, using generating grinding or form grinding processes to perform precision corrective grinding on heat-treated gears. Final tooth accuracy stably reaches GB/T 10095 Class 4–5 (DIN 3962 Class 4–5) with surface roughness Ra ≤ 0.8 μm. Tooth-flank crowning and tooth-tip relieving can be customized to optimize the meshing contact pattern, reduce transmission noise and extend load-carrying fatigue life.
- Tooth-end finishing station: Integrates CNC chamfering, deburring and tooth-end edge-rounding operations to eliminate sharp corners and stress concentrations, improving transmission smoothness and preventing chip-scraping risks during assembly and operation.
Housing & Structural Part Machining Unit
- Flexible housing machining cell: A flexible line composed of high-precision horizontal machining centers and CNC boring-milling machines, paired with multi-pallet exchange tables and reconfigurable fixtures, completing full-process milling, boring and tapping of gearbox housings. Bearing bore dimensional accuracy reaches H7 class, roundness ≤ 0.02 mm, coaxiality ≤ 0.05 mm, bore-pattern position accuracy ≤ 0.02 mm and flatness ≤ 0.01 mm/m, accommodating split, monolithic and welded housing structures.
- Precision shaft machining unit: Equipped with CNC lathes, cylindrical grinders, face grinders and spline machining equipment to complete all machining sequences of rotational parts such as input shafts, output shafts and planet shafts. Shaft-diameter roundness reaches the micron level, and combined with precision keyway and spline forming processes, it meets high-precision transmission fit requirements.
- Welding & stress-relief station: For large welded housings, gas-shielded welding and ultrasonic weld-inspection equipment are provided, together with a CNC tempering furnace for stress-relief annealing — eliminating residual stresses from welding and rough machining and controlling post-finishing deformation.
